The Axe Valley
A 1 hour 17 minute video looking at the people, history, wildlife & countryside of this beautiful river valley straddling the counties of Devon, Dorset & Somerset in South West England. Available in a variety of world formats.
The journey begins at the river's source, at
the natural amphitheatre of Cheddington in Dorset. It continues through Somerset
before finally reaching the sea at the old roman port of Axmouth in Devon. Its
journey takes it through some of Britain's most beautiful scenery, taking in the villages
of Mosterton, Clapton, Perry Street, Chard Junction, Winsham, Axminster, Membury, Dalwood,
Stockland, Shute, Musbury, Whitford, Colyton & Colyford.
It takes a look at the stately homes of Cricket St Thomas and Forde Abbey and
visits the traditional smuggling centres of Axmouth, Seaton and the nearby fishing
villages Beer and Branscombe.

Traditional crafts & Industries from thatching and farming to the world famous Axminster carpets.
Wildlife & the valley's history dating from Phoenician times to the present day.
The Undercliff nature reserve, the scene of a spectacular natural disaster which attracted a royal visit from Queen Victoria. It is now one of Britain's largest self sown ash forests which has a unique range of flora and fauna.
The vast complex of caverns at Beer which date back to roman times and feature a private chapel.
